BDSM is a set of consensual sexual practices, interests, and activities that stand for Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, and Sadism and Masochism. These practices often involve physical restraint, power exchange, and the infliction or reception of intense sensations (sometimes described as pain), but are characterized by the participants' agreement and consent.
Breaking down each component:
Bondage and Discipline (B&D): Includes the use of physical restraints and sensation play, such as pain or other intense stimulation, along with the use of punishment or consequences within the context of the practice.
Dominance and Submission (D&S): Focuses on a power dynamic where one person yields control to another, involving psychological control, giving and complying with orders, and taking on specific roles.
Sadism and Masochism (S&M): Refers to the infliction and receipt of intense sensations or what the community might call "pain". Sadism involves deriving pleasure from inflicting pain, while masochism involves deriving pleasure from receiving it.
